how is excise tax different from a sales tax
I am confused about excise taxes and sales taxes. Can someone explain how is excise tax different from a sales tax with a few simple examples of products that are taxed differently?

An excise tax is charged on specific goods or services, such as gasoline, cigarettes, or alcohol, usually at the manufacturer or seller level. A sales tax applies more broadly to many purchases and is typically added to the price when the consumer buys the product.

An excise tax is charged on specific goods or services, such as gasoline, alcohol, tobacco, or airline tickets, and is often included in the product’s price. A sales tax is generally charged as a percentage of the purchase price of many goods and services at the point of sale. In short, excise tax targets specific products, while sales tax applies more broadly to purchases.
