Is an employer ID the same as a tax ID?
Is an employer ID and tax ID the same thing for a U.S. business? I’d like to understand how these terms are used on tax forms and whether an employer identification number can serve as a federal tax ID.

In the U.S., an employer ID (EIN) is a type of federal tax ID issued by the IRS to identify a business for tax purposes. So, an EIN and federal tax ID generally refer to the same thing.

In the U.S., Employer Identification Number or EIN can be referred to as a form of Federal Tax ID number issued by the Internal Revenue Service. Hence, there is no difference between EIN and a federal tax ID number.

For the United States of America, EIN can be considered to be an example of Federal Tax ID number issued by the Internal Revenue Service. This means that there will not be any distinction between the EIN and Federal Tax ID number.
