What state taxes apply in Texas?
For business owners considering Texas, what state taxes should they know about? I’m especially interested in how Texas taxes can affect small businesses.

Texas has no state individual income tax, so your paycheck generally isn’t subject to a Texas personal income tax. However, Texas does have state sales tax (6.25%), plus possible local sales taxes, and property taxes are relatively high. Certain businesses may also be subject to the Texas franchise tax.

Texas has no individual state income tax. However, residents and businesses may encounter sales and use taxes, franchise tax for eligible businesses, property taxes, and certain industry-specific taxes or fees.

Texas does not have a state individual income tax. However, residents and businesses may still pay other state and local taxes, including sales and use tax, franchise tax, property taxes, motor vehicle taxes, and certain excise taxes. Sales tax is generally 6.25% at the state level, with local jurisdictions able to add additional amounts. Property taxes are primarily imposed by local governments rather than the state.

There is no Texas state income tax on individuals, meaning that your wages are usually not taxable under the Texas personal income tax. Nevertheless, the state imposes sales tax in Texas (6.25%) and possibly local sales taxes, along with relatively high property taxes. Some firms might also face Texas franchise tax.
