I am considering moving to another state and want to compare tax rules. Can someone tell me what states have no income tax and whether residents still pay other major taxes?

As of 2026, nine U.S. states have no broad personal income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.

But they still collect other taxes—like property, sales, or excise taxes—so the overall tax burden can vary quite a bit. I’d compare the full tax picture, not just income tax.
